Aaron Margolis (אהרן מאַרגאָליס)
Born 1982 Raised in New York residing in Ellsworth ME
At a young age Aaron stepped into the shoes of a לופֿטמענטש “Luftmensch.”He has since lived his life attempting to fill those ancestral footprints. And he believes he still has a long way to travel.
Aaron is a self taught dyslexic outsider artist, craftsperson, and teacher, focusing on creating sculptural assemblages from found and discarded materials.
He specializes in handtool woodworking, three-dimensional forms and creating from waste in styles ranging from “Craft Brut” to “Bourgeois Surrealism”
His interests and inspirations include Yiddishkeit and the lived Jewish experience, vernacular craft and the lived experiences of those outside the mainstream.
His influences span the breadth from Philip Guston to Red Grooms to Lousie Nevelson to a crumbling sidewalk with a newspaper caught on the breeze.
